SSBMT Awards

SSBMT has established the Saudi Hematology Research Group (SHRG) consisting of professionals from various specialties sharing interest in hematology research. The SSBMT recognises outstanding individuals and researchers who have made significant contributions to the field through two prestigious annual awards.

Research Award

SSBMT Hematology Research Award

The SSBMT Hematology Research Award has been approved by the SSBMT Board in its meeting of 28 September 2018. It reflects the SSBMT commitment towards the support and enhancement of scientific research and development in the field of hematology and stem cell transplantation in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.

Objectives
  • Encourage representation and appearance of KSA at international scientific meetings at a competitive level
  • Enhance hematology research in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia
  • Emphasize the SSBMT commitment to establish medical research culture in KSA
  • Recognize highly performing researchers in the field of hematology
Nature of the Award

The SSBMT Hematology Research Award may be given to a qualified researcher (first author or his/her designee) based on a Committee selection in each of the following disciplines: (One award per discipline)

  • Clinical Hematology
  • Hematopathology
  • Basic research with direct impact on Hematology
  • Stem Cell Transplantation
  • Hematology Nursing
Award Conditions

The award is given to published papers in peer-reviewed journals or abstracts presented at one of the following international conferences within the same year:

American Society of Hematology (ASH)
European Group for Blood and Marrow Transplantation (EBMT)
European Hematology Association (EHA)
American Society of Blood and Marrow Transplantation (ASBMT)
International Conference on Malignant Lymphoma (ICML)
American Society of Clinical Oncology (ASCO)
American Society of Pediatric Hematology/Oncology (ASPHO)
American Society of Histocompatibility and Immunogenetics (ASHI)
European Federation of Immunogenetics (EFI)
Selection Criteria

A dedicated committee will review the abstracts submitted based on a point system and with consideration of the following criteria:

Originality & Methodology 20%
Significance — contribution to hematology science 20%
Impact on healthcare 20%
Peer recognition — publication in significant peer-reviewed journals or leading to a patent 20%
Affiliation statement to SSBMT added to the publication and/or conference presentation 20%
The Award

The recipient (one award per discipline) shall receive:

  • Certificate of Recognition
  • Monetary Incentive
  • Abstract featured in the Abstract Book of one of the annual SSBMT conferences and posted on the SSBMT website and social media
Nomination Submission
  • Fill-up the self-nomination form and submit it to: ssbmt.hemawards@ngha.med.sa, ssbmt.hem.res.award@gmail.com
  • Submission time starts 1st of October till end of December every year.
  • Submission open until 04 January 2024. Send your nominations now.
  • The announcement and award distribution will be during the Annual Saudi Hematology Research Group meeting in January/February every year for abstracts/publications made for the preceding year.
Career Achievement Award

SSBMT Hematology Career Achievement Award

The SSBMT recognizes outstanding individuals who have made significant contributions and clear impact in the field of hematology at the local or international level. This could be in the form of research, teaching, developments or advancement in the field, etc. The 2024 SSBMT Hematology Career Achievement Awards will be presented at the 13th Annual Conference of SSBMT on 13 September 2024 in KSAU-HS Convention Center, Ministry of National Guard Health Affairs, Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.

  • To emphasize the SSBMT commitment to enhance hematology career in KSA
  • Recognize highly performing achievers in the field of hematology
  • To establish an incentifying culture in the hematology community in KSA
Specialty of the Award

The SSBMT Hematology Career Achievements Award may be given to a qualified person in one of the disciplines related to the scope of specialization of the society (both Adult and Pediatrics):

  • Clinical Hematology
  • Hematopathology
  • Stem Cell Transplantation
Nomination Procedure
  • SSBMT members to submit nominees to this email: ssbmt.office@mngha.med.sa including a statement about the achievement profile of the nominee.
  • No self-nomination will be accepted.
  • The nominees' names will be presented to a Selection Committee assigned by the SSBMT Board.
  • The Selection Committee has the right to nominate.
  • Winners will be selected based on the selection criteria below.
Selection Criteria

The Saudi Hematology Career Achievement Award selection committee will review the applications submitted based on the following factors:

National impact
Work sincerity
Perseverance
Leadership
  • The winner will be selected from the nominees based on the majority voting of the Selection Committee and supported by the nominee's achievement profile.
  • The nominee's achievement profile must have a clear impact at the national level and is related to the scope of specialization of SSBMT.
  • The announcement and reward distribution will be during the Annual Meeting of SSBMT conference every year.

The Selection Committee responsibilities:

  • To review all submitted nominee's packages and to select the award nomination
  • The Committee has the right to nominate
  • To develop scoring system

Required criteria to be implemented by the Selection Committee:

  • Outstanding contribution to hematology service nationally (for example, establishing/founding new service, programs, society)
  • Outstanding leadership in hematology field (for example, executive post, department chairman, section head, head of SCFHS Scientific Committee, head of society board)
  • Significant contribution to education (program director, scientific committee member, exam committee member, university faculty, mentorship)
  • Outstanding research achievements in hematology (publications, editors)
The Award

The recipient of the award shall receive:

  • Certificate of Recognition
  • Monetary Reward
  • The Awardee will be featured on the SSBMT website and national media.
